When Kristen & Dave first contacted us, we knew it was the perfect match. Even in those beginning stages of wedding planning they knew what they wanted - a laid-back atmosphere filled with conversation and laughter.
At their wedding almost ten months later, it's safe to say their goal was accomplished. Nestled away in the mountains of Asheville, Kristen and Dave said 'I do' with their closest friends and family beside them at Highland Brewing Company. It was relaxed, it was joyous, it was an absolute blast.
From the beginning of their day, Kristen and Dave choose to do things differently. With no formal wedding party, the two decided to get ready together with their closest family and friends around. No separation, no fuss- just moments with their favorite people.
The anticipation in the suite was high. With incredible views surrounding the hotel room, there would be moments of silence and awe as friends would admire the mountains. Although absolutely stunning, the mountain views would be quickly dismissed as Kristen or Dave would enter and leave the room. There's something about this couple that captures your attention - something vibrant, something joyful. So much laughter, so many stories were shared as the two of them prepared for the ceremony ahead. The mood would change as time went on, though - from loud and vivacious to more serious and thoughtful. Kristen and Dave read each other like an open book - adjusting to each other and spending moments together.
Once those details were added, we met Kristen & Dave at an overlook off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Since they aren't from Asheville (but hold it near and dear!), capturing the mountain views was important to Kristen. Although it was a high of mid-80's and the sun beat down on them viciously, Kristen and Dave didn't even look like they broke a sweat.
It's only fitting that Kristen and Dave would have a laid-back wedding after getting a glimpse at their love story. It has a simple but oh so sweet start. In their very first conversations, the chemistry was undeniable (although Dave first took the opportunity to slam Kristen's football team - his team had just beat hers!) It only took a few messages later for magic to happen and their first date to be planned.
Let's talk decor and design, shall we? Highland Brewing Company was the perfect wedding spot for this couple. As an industrial, modern space, the addition of in-season florals and simple table settings added the perfect amount of romance while letting the venue's unique details speak for themselves.
Wanting to capture the look and feel of an early-fall wedding, Kristen asked the wonderful people at Lady Luck Flower Farm to choose whatever flowers were in season. The results were absolutely stunning! Paired with the perfect decor and centerpieces, Erin and her team at Plain with Sprinkles kept the incredible fall details in the spotlight.
The atmosphere before the ceremony was calm. Because Kristen and Dave choose to create their day according to their pace and not have a formal wedding party, there was margin to spend time waiting together with their closest family and friends. Without the formal party photos to capture, instead I got to be a part of those intimate, slow-paced moments before they said I do. Surrounded by their dearest loved ones, Kristen and Dave laughed and waited and prepared for the vows to come.
Clear blue skies covered Kristen and Dave's rooftop ceremony. Surrounded by the rolling mountains and the people they loved, they said 'I do' to loving each other.
"I really thought I'd be nervous and emotional, but instead I was just happy and excited to become Dave's wife," Kristen wrote. "Everything about our ceremony was 'us', from my brother high-fiving me to our vows, our first kiss as husband and wife, and hearing people whoop and holler for us when we were pronounced Mr and Mrs Tice."
For David, the vows themselves were the most treasured part of the day. Full of laughter and tears, the words they shared mark just one moment - one magnificent moment- of promises, dreams, and togetherness.
It's no secret by now that we adore taking the couples by themselves for a few moments for photos. Kristen and Dave were no exception - stealing them away at sunset was so much fun! Because they were so laid back (and super in love), their chemistry made for some of the absolute sweetest photos in the dreamiest light.
Their engagement story warms my heart. In one of the most stunning of locations, Dave asked Kristen to marry him. She tells it best, "We spent a long weekend in the Boone area and went to one of my favorite NC spots, Grandfather Mountain. I huffed and puffed up that mountain before Dave found a wee spot a bit off of the trail and plunked me down to propose. It was actually quite perfect. No one was around and we had this beautiful view of the mountain range. We love that that exact spot will always be there for us to go back and visit!
After these dreamy photos, we headed back inside for a night full of celebration and dancing! Highland Brewing Company was the perfect space to celebrate. "We were both looking for a fun place that both we and our friends could enjoy. With its awesome roof top and tasty beer, Highland fit that perfectly!
Congratulations, you two! Your wedding was so fun to be a part of, and it was the best getting to be by your side during these sweet and unforgettable moments. We wish you both the absolute best!
